DISCLAIMER - I thought I had my handy dandy auto-publisher filled out correctly, nope -this didn’t go out last week – so you get a double dose of FRIDAY TID BITS!
I find so many little things in Manitowoc that I want to talk about but it doesn’t warrant an entire post. So Friday Tidbits will be something of a mash-up of items I ponder, see, or experience.
Don’t shop Manitowoc on Mondays

So earlier this week, on MONDAY, I wanted to get a few things downtown. Isn’t that great! With all the hype to keep downtown lively! I ventured to my first destination, Talk to the Paw, (sorry no link as I can’t find them online – which is another post entirely). As I got the kids out of the car, I noticed their hours. Not only are they closed Monday but Tuesday and Wednesday as well. Geez! How disappointing.
Then I decide to go to Lynn’s Classic Closet. Guess what? Yep, closed on Mondays. I was pretty upset. At least she isn’t closed half the week. The opportunity is lost, because I was hoping to find something for this weekend.
I haven’t assessed whether I’m upset about a wasted trip or that Monday isn’t the day to go downtown. What do you think? How do you feel when you make a trip to a store in town and they are closed?

I am not going to say that I know every little happening in town, but sometimes I find some stuff that I can’t wait to share.
As I was wandering aimlessly with no where to shop last Monday, I noticed the new store Modern by Megan. It’s where the Times Jewelers used to be. I only saw it as I was passing and got a glimpse of filled jewelry cases and I think I saw a reddish blue plate.
Over on Ninth Street I saw that Wallstreat Grill is gone! Totally gutted outside and inside. I stopped my car and shouted to a couple of guys – “What’s the scoop?”. Joe (one of the partners) tells me a high end bar and grill is going in called Shooter Malones (disclaimer: it could be spelled differently- I didn’t ask)
Great, now I got two questions!
Can I bring my kids there? Yep
Is it smoke free? Still in discussion. If the section of the establishment is smoking, they are going to put in an elaborate ventilation system.
He also shared with me, The Herald Times was trying to pin him down twice for some info and a story. Ha, you heard it here first. Almost makes me feel like the roving reporter! But I will look forward to that article.

If these businesses had a website, I probably could have checked their hours before I went. I’m online all the time… pulling out a phone book is ancient and old fashioned. Businesses must have a website, especially retail. Getting a piece of the internet real estate is as crucial as having a phone number.
So if you are the above businesses, let me know – I’ll give you practical advice to getting your information out there in a very inexpensive fashion!

I had heard that Wallstreet was turning into an Irish Pub…I guess time will tell. Retaurants are the same ways…many are also closed on Mondays.

Some places are closed on Monday as this gives the owner (who is also the only “employee”) a day off to take care of their business. This gives them a chance to go around town and spend $$$$ at places that are open on Mondays.

Thanks for the compliment!! I know the theory behind closing on Mondays, but it’s just timing. Had I ventured out on Thursday, there wouldn’t be a blog post. (lol).
Yah, after I posted the comment, I thought……..hey, she probably already knows that…dah.
But it can still be aggravating to be all excited about going to a store, only to arrive and have to slap your forehead, cuz it’s Monday and they are closed and you already knew that but you forgot and now you can’t go to the store and you really had your heart set on spending $$ there. (lol)
anyone know anything about the Manitowoc Humane Shelter’s hours ? I cant find a thing!

Talk to the Paw is expanding their hours. They might not be open as often as other places, but it’s still a GREAT store for quality treats!
