I really fueled the economy today!

Have you heard of Schmidt’s Nursery? Neither had I – until my friends from the Urban Garden Gang told me about it. They told me to go see Lewie (I would have thought it was Louie, until I saw his name on his shirt). He is up on Tannery and Hillcrest road in Two Rivers! I went because I have a pot just aching to have some onions and cilantro in it! It’s nothing fancy, but it has all the essentials. If you want seeds, by golly he has got them. Shelves of seeds that you buy for quarter of an ounce to four ounces. Both vegetable and flowers. I about fell over when I saw how much money I’m gonna be saving next year with the flower seeds. I purchased one hot pepper plant (I have ambitions to make salsa at the end of the summer), one celery pack, one onion plant, cilantro and two tomato plants. My grand total – like FOUR BUCKS!

So as I was winding back home down 42 I went through Two Rivers – oh by golly I forgot that Evans is going out of business. I was surprised to see so many toys left! Let’s just say I’m done Christmas shopping for my girls. I even got the party favors for the birthday party this fall. Two carts full of stuff. Unbelievable. Depending on your needs and how organized you are, there is plenty of items that would tide you over for Christmas. If you are a crafter, tons of things still on the shelves. I wished I knew someone that was having a baby shower or wedding, tons of stuff on sale.

Hubby and I decided to do “date” night and headed to Sheboygan to eat at Stefanos. It’s a real treat to eat there. Such good Italian food and I had been craving Italian for a very very long time. Carl had the special tenderloin with fig and wine sauce. I ate the beets which were so delish. Sauted spinach and roasted potatoes. I had the classic Penne del Nonna – penne pasta with a great mix of sausage, beef and sauce. Classic. And of course no Italian meal is complete without Tiramasu!

So there is my contribution to the economy! I kept it somewhat local – hey what can I say – I am very fussy about my dining, which you will learn.

  1. Well, in a sense you did keep your economy boost local. Stephano buys produce from an organic gardener in Manitowoc County. Good stuff, isn’t it?

  2. Very Cool – see I do things without even knowing it!

  3. Just thought since you really like tiramisu and Italian, Sheboygan offers another very authentic – cozy – casual dining experience. Osteria Nonna Maria serves beer and wine and some of the best southern Italian foods.

Dennis Getto – food reporter – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel gave the max of three stars
Nonna Maria is listed as one of the top 12 pizzas in Wisconsin and one of the top 1% in the USA in the book, “Everybody Loves Pizza…”

  4. Mary Jo,
Thanks for sharing. I’ll be sure to check it out. Perhaps an extra add on item for a good review (wink). I do love my Italian food and my birthday is next week!

I’m so glad you found me here! I hope you will contribute more!
